On June 6th 2005, Imelda Reid, Nora Gahan and Geraldine McGrath participated in the Dublin City Womens Mini Marathon which raised €1979

The atmosphere on the day was electric and the camaraderie amongst all the LADIES! was remarkable. Imelda, Nora and Geraldine were generously supported and sponsored by their friends, family and Marfan Research Committee.

On May 22nd 2005, Chelmsford Prison Staff, Essex, England, participated in RIDLEY’S GREAT BADDOW CHARITY RACES on behalf of Marfans Research Foundation

Sr Philomena Purcell came 132nd out of 898 and has the medal to prove it. The total raised was €661.75. Well done Philomena and a BIG THANKS TO YOU AND ALL YOUR GENEROUS SPONSORS.

Kevin O Neill (a 24 year old teacher from Belfast who works in Manchester, England) ran the 26 mile Belfast Marathon on May 2nd 2005 on behalf of our Charity and raised the total of €168

Kevin trained for four months for the event. Well done to Kevin and many thanks for the donation.

Mick Creed from Hastings in East Sussex, England, completed a Charity Bike Ride on behalf of our Charity on April 27th 2005…raising the total of Stg£200

Mick started at Hastings Lifeboat Station, onto St Leonards, Bexhill, Normans Bay, Pevensy Castle, Wartling, Hertsmonceux, Magnam Down and returned to Hastings. This is a total journey of forty miles. Mick completed this pedal bike ride in two and a half hours. Congratulations and well done Mick. Research saves lives, offering hope to all Marfan sufferers.

The Colm Doyle Memorial Golf Challenge Cup, sponsored by Suir Engineering Ltd., Mooncoin, Co Kilkenny, was held on March 25th/26th 2005 and raised €920

Pauline Doyle, proprietor of Suir Engineering, generously chose our Charity to benefit from the proceeds. The Colm Doyle Memorial Golf Classic is a memorial to Pauline’s son, Colm, who died at a very young age. Pauline has already contributed generously to our many fundraisers.

The Golf Classic was played over two days and three golf courses – The Gold Coast, Dungarvan and West Waterford. Ten teams participated, including our own – The Marfans – Liam Tobin, Kieran McGrath and Michael McGrath. The weather was beautiful, giving full advantage to the magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean, Dungarvan Bay, The Comeragh and Knockmealdown Mountains.

  • First Prize went to Eoin Doyle’s team: – Paul Walsh, Damian Power and Paul Haley.
  • Second Prize went to O’Sheas Engineering: – Kieran Quigley, Denis Conway Snr and Maurice Fehilly.
  • Third Prize went to H&MV Engineering: – Gerry Phelan, Tom Murphy and John Grant.

    Big thanks to Pauline Doyle and Kieran Quigley for their generosity. Congratulations Kieran on a job very well done.

    Bag Pack and Food Hamper Raffle took place at Super Value Supermarket, Morgan St, Waterford from December 21st – 24th 2004

    This was a tremendous success. Our faithful volunteers and generous Super Value customers helped us to raise an incredible €9957 for Marfan Syndrome Research. We are grateful to the Manager and Staff at Super Value for facilitating our fundraiser. It was a labour of love.

    A Luxury Food Hamper Raffle was held at Tesco Supermarket, Lisduggan, Waterford, on December 11th 2004

    A Table Quiz took place at The Showboat, The Glen, Waterford on October 19th 2004 and it raised €722

    We all had a successful and most enjoyable night at what is now an annual event. The competent quizmaster was Michael O’Brien who gives his time and expertise voluntarily. This is the second table quiz held at The Showboat, where there were twenty tables. The fundraiser was very well supported and as ever, thanks to all our loyal supporters.

    St Senan’s Boys N.S. Kilmacow, County Kilkenny, held a very successful Bring and Buy Sale at their school on October 14th 2004 which raised the fantastic total of €455

    The teachers, secretary, parents and pupils put in a tremendous effort and we are most grateful for their support. The teachers also bought a large number of The Marfans Research Foundation Christmas Cards. A big thank you to all.
